Fresco Restoration Project Begins at New Gracanica Monastery

THIRD LAKE, IL – On Monday, December 6, 2010, the Fresco Restoration project commenced at New Gracanica Monastery.  Many frescoes at New Gracanica Monastery were damaged by water leaking in over the last several years.  Since the repair of the roof, the damaged frescoes have been partially plastered over and are now in need of repainting.  Scaffolding has been erected in the monastery church and repainting of the water-damaged frescoes will commence on Thursday, December 9.  The original painter of the frescoes, Archpriest Theodore Jurewicz, will be doing the restoration.  The entire project should be completed by the end of December 2010.  In the interim, daily services, from Monday through Saturday, will continue to be served in the main monastery building in the chapel on the second floor.  Tentatively, Divine Liturgy is still planned to be served on Sundays in the church.  Any changes to this plan will be posted on this website.
