The Reverend Priests
Orthodox Christian Clergy Association
of Greater Chicago
Dear Reverend Father,
Triodion has begun, and Great Lent begins soon. Let us all pray for health, power and inspiration as we begin this holy season!
We are writing on behalf of the Orthodox Christian Clergy Association about these upcoming events of interest:
• The Sunday of the Triumph of Orthodoxy will be celebrated on Sunday evening, March 9th, and the annual Pan-Orthodox Vespers will take place at 6:30 pm at St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, 2350 Dempster Street in Des Plaines, Illinois. This year’s homilist will be His Grace Bishop ANTHONY of the Antiochian Orthodox Diocese of Toledo and the Midwest.
We are asking all the clergy who will be participating in the Vespers to arrive around 5:30, and the Pan-Orthodox Vespers will follow at 6:30 pm. We hope that you are planning to join us, and ask that you announce this jubilant Vespers service to your parishioners. (A flyer is enclosed.) Please bring white or gold colored vestments and plan to participate in the service!
• On the next day, Monday, March 10th, we will begin our overnight Pan-Orthodox Clergy Retreat. The retreat will take place at the New Gracanica Monastery of the Holy Mother of God on Rte 45 in Lake Villa, Illinois. The theme of this year’s retreat will be “Secularism – A Modern Icon of Human Nature,” and Bishop Anthony will be our Retreat Master and speaker.
Enclosed, you will find a detailed brochure and registration form for the Overnight Retreat. Last year’s overnight retreat was well-attended and very beneficial, and we hope you will plan to be with us this year!
As you know, all Orthodox Christian Clergy of the Greater Chicago area who are under the Assembly of Orthodox Bishops are invited to become active members of the OCCA, which meets only 5 times a year. Our purpose is to get to know one another, to see how we can work together, enrich our ministries and promote our Orthodox Christian Faith more effectively in the greater Chicago area.
We would be happy to see you at these events and other meetings. Even if you cannot attend every meeting, please come when you can, even if it is only once or twice during the year!
Faithfully yours on behalf of the OCCA,
Fr. Dean Botsis,
